Hello fellow Algoverians👋,

We’re excited to be sharing our very first Algovera newsletter. This newsletter will be sent out every Monday with updates on the happenings of the previous week. And wow, what a week it was! We had a couple of really big moments for Algovera:

💰The inaugural Algovera Grants round received a total of 15 (!) proposals from community members, with a diverse range of projects that span computer vision, healthcare, climate, community/DAO tooling and token engineering studies. The feedback phase is now over and voting is open until 23:59 UTC on 26th January. Place your votes through this link https://poap.vote/poll/259. You will need to have an ALGOVERA - Super Early Community POAP to vote. Information about redeeming this can be found in the #announcement channel of Algovera’s Discord server.

👨‍⚕️We are very excited to announce our partnership with nCight to develop a medical image classification algorithm on a private dataset of patient images. This project will provide freelancing opportunity for up to two data scientists, as well as a small tournament for the rest of the Algovera community. Today, we released a blog post with more information about the project, including instructions for how to submit your interest.

As always, there’s lots more going on in Algovera:

🤝The Tokenomics Pod held a session where a wide range of considerations around methods for sustainably funding AI Squads were discussed. This Pod welcomed new member Will last week.

📁The Storage Pod held two productive video sessions and has now grown to 6 members: Dyllan, Vintage, Timothy, Holly, Jakub and Richard. Initial discussions explored a wide range of technologies including IPFS, Filecoin, Ceramic, ICP, Hub and HuggingFace. New member Holly presented a Miro board for bringing structure to the problem.

🛒The Marketplace Pod will hold its first alignment session with its 3 initial members: Maria, Jakub and Richard. The aim of this pod is to start development towards the Algovera Marketplace.

🏆Shout out to Dyllan, Timothy, Robin, Vintage Gold and Jakub for being the top value providers (excluding core team) last week (Jan 16 to Jan 23, 2022) according to SourceCred (https://cred.algovera.ai/#/explorer).

In other news:

🎨Algovera is a proud sponsor of the Indian Ocean Hackathon, organised by Prakash. We will award $500 USD worth of Ocean for the winning design entry of a frontend for the Algovera Marketplace.

🎙To coincide with the start of Kernel Block 5, we are introducing Algovera Juntos again. Juntos are exploratory conversations on a certain subject. In the past, we’ve had conversations about topics including the pros and cons of decentralized AI, the matter of AI governance, AI ethics and potential applications of AI and climate. Furthermore, now anyone in the community can propose a topic. Here is the link to organise a junto: https://airtable.com/shrVtcyYZTaqLnXaL

📝We migrated the Algovera blog posts from Medium to https://docs.algovera.ai/blog. All blog posts will be posted here in future.
